Culinary and Hospitality Opportunities Program (CHOP)
CHOP (Culinary and Hospitality Opportunities Program) is designed for adults with varying abilities who are interested in obtaining employment in the hospitality industry.
CHOP runs for 15 consecutive weeks and includes the following areas:
- Professional Culinary and Hospitality Training
- Food Safety and Sanitation
- Group Discussions on Workplace Etiquette, Interviewing Skills, Dealing with Workplace Supervisors, and Coping with Workplace Stress.
- ServSafe Certification
Examples of the skills taught include:
- Identification and proper use of common kitchen utensils and equipment
- Uses and profiles of frequently used ingredients

ring techniques for liquid and dry ingredients - Following set recipes and recipe conversion
- Creative food presentation
- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner preparation
- Successful hospitality traits
CHOP will run Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, totaling 150 training hours over 15 weeks. An additional 10 hours in week 16 can be used for skill reinforcement or finalizing job placement. This cycle will repeat three-times annually, with a maximum of 10 trainees per session.
