Transitional Employment (TE) – Members who are potentially “job ready” gradually progress from internships to paid, transitional employment (TE) sites in the community. These are sites in the business community that partner with North Jersey Friendship House and offer our members paid work experience while the program staff continues to monitor their progress and build upon their independent functioning.

Supported Employment (SE) – Once a member shows less need for intense programming, but, still needs job supports, a referral to DVR – Department of Vocational Rehabilitation for SE can take place. A member who chooses full time work is only referred to DVR, while a member who wants part time work and part time programming is referred accordingly. SE is comprised of the following:

Pre-Placement – The Job Coaching staff assists members with resumes writing, application completion, and interviewing skills and conducts an employment search to secure an appropriate match. This allows individuals to have supported services and they may not require the other components of supported employment.

Job Coaching – The Job Coaching staff works with the member at the work site, teaching hands-on skills needed to succeed as well as educating the employer about the member’s abilities and challenges. The job coach also addresses any behaviors, socialization and communication issues that may be affecting the member’s overall performance.

Long Term Follow Along (If needed) – The Job Coaching staff continues to provide ongoing supportive services in order for the members to maintain community employment.

Independent Placement – Once a member reaches all of his/her independent goals, demonstrating the ability to sustain employment and expresses a desire to work independently with out supports, a Job Coach will work diligently to secure such an employment opportunity.
