Autism Program Bracelets

Autism Program Bracelets

The “Jewelry of Colors” fundraiser is an activity of the Adult Autism Day Program. Handmade bracelets are created by the members for sale to the general public. The fundraiser grew out of an attempt to engage a new member in a fulfilling activity. Since jewelry-making was her hobby the activity was created.  Soon, many of the members became involved in making bracelets. Parents, students, teachers and friends at the Rockleigh facility were soon placing orders to give the bracelets as gifts or to keep for themselves.

Each bracelet is individually packaged with a tag specifying the name of the member “craftsman” who made it. The members now track inventory and maintain a spreadsheet to keep track of the number of bracelets sold.  With the profits from sales the staff and members are planning to purchase two iPads for use in the program. What began as an engaging activity for a single member has now become a small enterprise for many!
